Pesona Komodo

A day at sea, one boat for your group.

Mockup from listing photos · Concept project by Alihrupa · Illustration

A mockup made from the public Airbnb listing photos of Pesona Komodo, a wooden phinisi in the waters of Komodo. It is not a client project. The story follows one day on board: the boat in front of a green hill, slow hours on deck, the bow at golden hour, and night in five cabins.

The idea

The listing already holds what matters most: one boat for 12 guests, and one photo of that boat in front of a steep green hill. The film turns this into one day you can follow, from the water to the deck, the bow and the cabins, with the light moving from morning to night. There is no voice-over; the places, their order and the music carry the story. The music is calm and acoustic, with a plucked string sound close to the sasando from NTT, without borrowing any folk melody.

Why it looks this way

Open on the boat itself

Listing photo 01 is the only one taken from outside the boat. The film opens on it with a slow, drone-style arc, so the first shot shows this hull, this mast and this hill. The grey sky stays grey; only the camera moves.

Vertical, because the photos are

Eight of the ten photos are portrait, most of them taken on a phone. So the film is 9:16, the shape of a Reel, and little of the photos is cropped away. Every shot was generated vertical from the start, including those from the two landscape photos.

Change the light, not the view

Photo 09 shows the bow on a grey day, facing a bay with other boats at anchor. In the film the light turns gold, but the bay, the moored boats and the hills stay. Light may change. Scenery may not be added.

Five cabins, five beats

The listing says five bedrooms. Instead of writing that on screen, the film shows all five, about two seconds each, cut to the music. Each cabin gets its own camera move, so five similar rooms never blur into one.

The lounge deck is where the slow hours go, so the camera stays low, near seat height.

The fifth room closes the count. What the listing says in one line, you have now seen.

Kept true to the place

  • The boat as listed: the white-and-blue hull, the mast and the varnished wooden cabins on deck.
  • The steep green hill and the long jetty behind the boat, as in listing photo 01.
  • The other boats anchored in the bay off the bow, as in photo 09. They stay in the shot.
  • The pale painted bow deck. One early take turned it into teak; that take was rejected and redone.
  • The cabin details from the photos: woven wall discs, blue-and-white floral bed runners, the woven lampshade, the bunk beds and the red carpet.
  • Nothing added to the view: no Komodo dragons, pink beaches, extra islands or animals.
  • Only the light changes: a grey morning, daylight on deck, golden hour at the bow, night in the cabins.
